CFAHU December 2012 Newsletter

Dear Members,
Now that the election is over we can concentrate on moving forward with PPACA and it’s implementation. NAHU will be our best education source to aid all of us with the correct interpretation of the law for our clients. The new NAHU website is a great resource for answers and should be utilized to the fullest.
NAHU membership is more important than ever. Our association is working feverishly every day on important issues just like PPACA. I know our members will weather this storm of change. Non members will be left to their own devices.
I want to wish all our members and their families a safe and Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or Happy Holidays.
Regards,
Augie

He attended Hope College and Aquinas College and completed his graduate studies at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. He received his clinical and macro licenses in Michigan, in 2006, and is a certified school social worker. Johnathan was a medical social worker for Arnold Palmer Hospital and a therapist with both Tri-County Psychiatric Associates and The Center for Health, Learning and Achievement in Orlando. He has over 25 years of experience in medical, educational and psychiatric social work. Johnathan and his wife, Amy, have one son and a soon to be daughter-in-law. They are active members of Orangewood Presbyterian Church in Maitland.
“When God led me to Grace, I was overwhelmed by the team of professionals who have dedicated their lives to serving God’s people. The enthusiasm demonstrated in caring for the Lord’s people is a component of a dream of mine to be a part of such a Christ-centered facility. Jesus told Peter, ‘Take care of my lambs’ (John 21:15). It is a privilege to serve God’s people in such a wonderful setting.”

Legislative Report December 2012
Future of PPACA Not Clear
Despite the fact that the re-election of President Obama secured the political future of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and full repeal of the law is currently officially off the table, that doesn’t mean that the law’s future in the courts is clear.
- Supreme Court Ordered 4th Circuit to hear challenge by Liberty University. (Religious Freedom, Unconstitutional)
- This is just one of many cases concerning similar issues
Days of Our Exchanges
Deadline for the states to decide on exchanges has been extended to December.
- New Hampshire has chosen Federal facilitated exchange, but might revisit
- Arkansas has been working for more than a year on their exchange.
- Michigan previously agreed to a partnership exchange with the Federal Government
- Virginia has held off hoping for Supreme Court to rule unconstitutional or Republican win in November. Likelihood of State Run exchange slim.
- Undecided states are Arizona, Florida, Idaho, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah and W. Virginia.
NAIC to meet this week
Meeting topics include; long term care, exchanges – heat insurance and managed care communities, health actuarial tasks, employee retirement income security, regulatory frameworks, producer licensing and market regulation and consumer affairs.
