FAHU’s annual Symposium was held at the Gaylord Palms llast month. The meeting was well attended and the programs were the best ever presented. Thanks to Barb Coggins and all involved in planning the symposium. Please plan to attend next year. Put it on your calendars now: July 28-30, 2013.
On October 3rd we will have our annual member mixer at CityArts Factory, followed by an Improv show upstairs at SAK Comedy Club in Downtown Orlando. See details below.
Congrats to Dave Sherrill and Ashley Wynkoop the winner and runner-up in membership recruiting for the state of Florida. Laura Staller was named as a rising star in FAHU, receiving the Emerging Leader Award and last, but not least CFAHU was named “Large Chapter of the Year”.
With the upcoming Presidential election, it is important that we vote. It is our civic duty and a right that some countries don’t provide. This is a critical time in our country and our careers. Arguably, this is the most important election of our lifetime. Please make sure you vote and show your support by contributing to HUPAC and FAHU-PAF to support the candidates that support our profession. Thank you
IN GOOD HEALTH

Short Term Disability Insurance and Health Related Lost Productivity
1 Hour CE – Offering # 72795
Presented by Matt Beatty,
Sales Representative with The Standard
This one hour course covers health related costs to employee productivity by discussing absenteeism and presenteeism. It illustrates how companies are not immune to these concepts before or after Health Care Reform and that dropping employer sponsored health coverage in 2014 will not protect a company from health related costs at work.
Matt Beatty started his working career as a model for Abercrombie and Fitch. He then went on to make millions on Wall Street running a hedge fund. After that he setup nonprofits all over the world to cure world hunger. He would have run for president of the United States, but alas he is not 35 years old yet. After he built his own rocket ship to travel to Mars to repair all of the broken NASA rovers, he decided to become an insurance rep because it is so fun and rewarding.
Legislative Report September 2012
H.R. 1206 known as the Brokers Bill was heard Tuesday in the Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittee; this is a result of months of effort from your association. If all goes well this bill will be heard by the full Committee and hopefully on the House floor.
After partisan debate H.R. 1206 was passed. We worked hard getting many co-sponsors and making our story heard. The debate fell mostly along party lines with those against the bill opining that passing the bill will weaken consumer safeguards.
Guidance on Employer Issues
The IRS finally released two notices last week to provide employers with much
needed guidance on how to count employees on PPACA’s employer mandate and the 90 day waiting period requirements.
